What We Do

We provide the electricity that powers our homes, businesses, and government services. We also maintain the streetlights that illuminate our neighborhoods and make our city a safer place to live. We are proud to be part of the Sioux Falls Community!

Light and Power Division Facts:

  • Receives electricity from Western Area Power Administration (WAPA).
  • Supplements with power from Heartland Power to meet daily needs and provide backup.
  • Maintains over 93 miles of overhead and underground distribution power lines.
  • Maintains over 21,000 street lights.
  • Owns and maintains an inventory of light fixtures, poles, and lamps.
