Sioux Falls Fire Academy Applications Open April 28

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue (SFFR) will accept applications starting April 28, 2025, for its 2026 Cadet Academy.

The application period will be open from April 28 to May 21, 2025. Interested candidates can apply online at siouxfalls.gov/teamSFFR. SFFR encourages all interested parties to sign up for job alerts on the City website to receive timely updates and information about the application process.

“SFFR is committed to recruiting dedicated and capable individuals to serve our growing community,” said Chad Quissell, Talent Acquisition Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls. “We are looking for individuals with a strong sense of service, a willingness to learn, and the ability to perform under pressure. Prior firefighting or EMS experience is not required to apply.”

The selection process includes an entry-level firefighter exam designed to assess candidates’ essential skills and abilities. Successful candidates will be invited to join the SFFR Cadet Academy, with the next class scheduled to begin in 2026. The hiring timeline is as follows:

April 28–May 21, 2025: Firefighter position open for application.
June 3, 2025: Online entrance examination for all applicants.
June 2025: Interview for selected candidates.
July–October 2025: Conditional employment offers extended and complete pre-employment screening process.
2026: Firefighter cadet class starts 18-week paid training academy.
