Mayor Paul TenHaken is inviting the community to join him at the Westside Recreation Center on Saturday, April 26, for the kickoff of the annual fitness challenge. TenHaken started the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge in 2020 to encourage people to get outside, enjoy various parks, and get moving. Since 2020, the goal has been to move at least one mile every day for 100 days. In 2025, the goal instead is to complete 100 workouts in 100 days. A workout can be considered a pickleball game, a Pilates class, weight training, a walk, a run, or a bike ride around the recreation trail.

“In 2025, we’ve broadened the reach of the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge to give even more people the opportunity to participate,” said Mayor TenHaken. “Whether you’ve participated in years past or are joining us for the first time, this initiative continues to encourage and motivate our community to get out and get active.”

The Mayor’s Fitness Challenge will kick off on Saturday, April 26, and run through Monday, August 4. Participants are encouraged to tag their workout selfies on social media with #MayorsFitnessChallenge throughout the challenge. They can also log their workouts online to track how far we go as a community. People can input their mileage or minutes of movement every day. There are also printable workout trackers on the webpage.

The community is invited to attend the kickoff on Saturday, April 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Westside Recreation Center. The kickoff event is open to all ages and will begin with a warmup inside the recreation center. A daily, monthly, or annual pass to the recreation center is not necessary to participate in the kickoff event. Following the warmup, the Mayor will lead the group on a run around the facility and neighborhood. Those interested can choose to walk instead of running the planned route. Participants can also choose to attend a cycling class at 10 a.m., a power yoga class at 11 a.m., swim in the pool, or stick around the gym to play basketball instead of participating in the walk or run to get their workout in on the first day of the challenge.
