Public Invited to Falls Park Master Plan Open House

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will host a public open house on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Startup Sioux Falls’ MarketBeat Theater (100 East Sixth Street) for the Falls Park Master Plan. This public open house includes a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. along with displays and visuals of the proposed roadmap for the next 30 to 50 years of The Falls.

The master plan aims to make meaningful changes to Falls Park in the next few decades to create a signature park that attracts visitors from afar, while also being a beloved local destination. The master plan addresses topics like traffic circulation and safety in the park, expanding recreational opportunities and all-season programming, the water quality of the river, preserving the history and natural beauty of the park, and enhancing the heart of the park.

The Falls Park Master Plan process began in 2021. It followed the completion of many goals in the previous Falls Park master plans. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation held a design competition to develop comprehensive ideas to address the future of The Falls. Confluence Landscape Architecture was awarded the design contract.

“The Falls Park Master Plan is a grand vison, with big ideas, that are rooted in community input,” Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation said. “The master plan provides a roadmap based on community input that aims to make Falls Park a year-round regional destination. It’s fitting to finalize this master plan now as there is also great momentum in the new developments downtown.”

The public is encouraged to attend the open house to learn more about the master plan. Parking will be available in the lot on the east side of the Startup Sioux Falls building.
