Fire Extinguisher Training

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue offers two types of fire extinguisher classes: educational and hands-on. Please check with your employer, school, or licensing body to make sure you take the correct course.

Online Educational Fire Extinguisher Training

This course is designed for groups or individuals that do not need the hands-on portion of the class. The class will cover the basics of fire classification and how to use a fire extinguisher. It will help participants recognize a fire classification to choose the proper fire extinguisher to suppress fire.

• The class is free and takes about 15 minutes to complete online.
• Register online so Sioux Falls Fire Rescue has a record of your online completion.

Hands-On Fire Extinguisher Training 

This class provides hands-on training for those that would prefer to experience firsthand how to use the PASS method.

• Classes for hands-on fire extinguisher training are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Campus (4300 E. 60th St. N.).
• There is a $10 fee per person to attend this course.
• The class size will range from 5 to 30 participants. Classes may be postponed due to low enrollment.
• Registrations must be received by the close of business on the third Monday of each month. Register online in advance so we have an approximate headcount.
