The Fire Prevention Division works to reduce the risk of fires and promote fire safety within the community. We ensure that businesses are safe for residents and responders. Our team includes the Fire Marshal and the inspection bureau. We ensure that fire codes and ordinances are being met. We also issue permits, licenses, registrations, and handle inspection requests.

The Fire Prevention Division enforces fire safety standards within Sioux Falls. Under the authority of the Fire Marshal and Chief, they interpret fire codes and establish regulations to prevent and control fires and fire hazards. They engage in several key activities:
