Nelson Park, Barb Iverson Skate Plaza & Kuehn Park

Only skateboards, inline skates, and BMX bikes allowed. No other wheeled devices of any kind are allowed within the skate park.

Now Open: Barb Iverson Skate Plaza

The Barb Iverson Skate Plaza, named in memory of a popular middle school teacher who died from cancer in 2021, is a partnership between The City of Sioux Falls and the nonprofit Let’s Skate.

At 20,000 square feet, the park will be one of the largest in the country. It will feature a flow bowl area with spaces designed for skateboarders of all abilities, including an advanced section, a rock terrace feature, a street plaza lane, and grind rails.

The new skate Plaza is designed to be accessible and inclusive for skaters of all ages and abilities. The park will cater to both recreational and competitive skateboarding, elevating the sport in Sioux Falls. The skatepark will provide a dedicated space for skateboarding, promoting physical activity and fostering a sense of community. 

Project Details

This project was made possible by a partnership between the City and Let’s Skate. The City contributed $800,000 to the project, and Let’s Skate raised $1.7 million. Construction started in August 2023.

Hockey Rinks

Hockey rinks are concrete, NHL-sized, and have night lighting. Only inline skates and roller skates allowed. No other wheeled devices of any kind are allowed within the hockey rink.

Inline Skating Rink and Skate Park Rules

Availability of these skate parks in the future may be dependent on patrons’ compliance with the following:

  • Skate at your own risk. The skate parks and hockey rinks are not supervised. Users assume all risks inherent in the use of these facilities. Use of these facilities may result in serious injury or death.
  • It is strongly recommended that users wear an approved helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards.
  • Food and drink are not allowed inside the rink or skate park areas.
  • Glass, alcohol, and smoking are prohibited.
  • No stickers, loud music, inappropriate language/actions, or reckless behavior allowed.
